What Is the LEED AP Credential?

The LEED AP (Accredited Professional) credential demonstrates advanced knowledge of green building practices and the ability to specialize in a specific LEED Rating System. Furthermore, it reflects a professional’s commitment to sustainable design, construction, and operational excellence.

The LEED AP exam consists of two parts. First, candidates must complete the LEED Green Associate exam, which evaluates general knowledge of green building principles. Eligibility for LEED Green Associate and LEED AP Exams

What Is the Exam Format and Length?

The LEED AP exam consists of one section with 100 randomly delivered multiple-choice questions. The exam must be completed within two hours; therefore, effective time management is important to ensure all questions are answered. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 170 out of 200 to pass the exam.

In addition, the exam includes both scored and unscored questions. However, candidates are not informed which questions are scored or unscored. Therefore, all questions should be answered carefully, as every response contributes to the overall exam experience. Unscored questions are included to evaluate whether they may be used as scored questions in future exams.

Gain and Maintain Your LEED AP Credential

After successfully earning the credential, all LEED professionals are required to maintain their certification by completing continuing education hours. This ensures that professionals remain updated with the latest developments and best practices in sustainable building and green practices.

LEED Green Associates must complete 15 continuing education hours within two years of earning their credential. Similarly, LEED AP professionals must complete 30 continuing education hours within two years to maintain their credential.
