Who Should Apply?
To be eligible for the CSCP you must meet one of the following conditions for education and experience:
- 3 years of related business experience or
- Bachelor’s degree or the international equivalent*, or
- CPIM, CLTD or CSCP, CTL, CFPIM, CIRM, SCOR-P, C.P.M., CSM or CPSM designations
APICS defines the international equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree as the level of study that would qualify an individual for a graduate program in the country where the undergraduate degree was earned.
WHAT IS THE EXAM FORMAT & LENGTH?
- Computer-Based Test (CBT) administered at a Prometric testing center.
- 4 hour exam
- The APICS CSCP exam consists of 175 multiple-choice questions (150 operational and 25 pretest). The pretest questions do not contribute to your total score but are necessary for research purposes. These pretest questions are randomly distributed among the scorable items and will be used for statistical purposes only. The pretest items are similar to the scorable items on the test, and candidates will not know which items will be scored and which will not. Candidates should answer all exam questions.
Gain and Maintain Your CSCP
- Candidates are required to maintain their certification every five years. A cycle starts the month the candidate became certified. For example, Date certified: January 10, 2015 Maintenance due date: January 31, 2020
- Seventy-five maintenance points are required for the APICS CSCP designation
- Points are awarded based on the following activity categories: 1. Continuing education (CE) 2. Presentations, publications and educational development (PPED) 3. Service to the supply chain and operations management profession (SSCOMP) 4. Professional membership (PM)

- Differentiating vertical versus horizontal integration and different levels of supply chain maturity
- Using planning, communicating, influencing, and prioritizing steps in demand management, including market research and demand forecasting
- Assessing portfolios and products using product portfolio management, the 4Ps of marketing, and product life-cycle management (PLM)
- Using sales and operations planning (S&OP) to align supply with demand
- Designing the supply chain and configuring the supply chain network
- Balancing efficiency with responsiveness while being resilient
- Optimizing technology by matching requirements to various supply chain technologies and interfaces
- Forming cross-functional and cross-organizational supply chain design teams

- Managing supply based on total cost of ownership and make-versus-buy analysis

- Doing spend and portfolio analyses to right-size the supplier base
- Developing supply plans based on buyer-supplier relationships
- Influencing product designs to promote collaboration and requirements inclusiveness Negotiating effective supply contracts/purchase orders and selecting proper payment terms
- Leveraging manufacturing planning and control including master planning, master scheduling, material requirements planning, distribution requirements planning, and various levels of capacity checks
- Managing, planning, and controlling inventory to keep it at proper levels and replenish it efficiently
- Understanding the effects of inventory on financial statements and inventory-related cost categories
- Using quality and continuous improvement techniques and principles, including lean and just-in-time
- Determining strategies for logistics, warehouse management, and transportation management
- Complying with international standards and considerations for import/export, tax/tariff, and labor laws
- Managing reverse logistics and waste
- Segmenting customers, suppliers, and other partners
